Eighteenth-Century Borrowing from the University of Glasgow

About the Project / Contact

The Enlightenment Readers in the Scottish Universities project, which produced this resource, was co-ordinated by Dr Matthew Sangster, who designed the data structure and completed data normalisation. Dr Karen Baston conducted the core research, completing the register transcription and interpreting many of the line entries. The database and website were created by Brian Aitken. Siobhan Convery, Samuel Dyer, Julie Gardham, Robert MacLean and Niki Russell in Glasgow University Library provided valuable support for the project. Digitisation of the registers was completed by the Library Photographic Unit.

The project was funded by a Research Incentive grant from the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland and a grant from the University of Glasgow’s Chancellor’s Fund. We are grateful to the Carnegie Trust and to the University for their support. This site serves as a pilot for the Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded Books and Borrowing Project (2020-2023).
